EASY Entertaining: Putting together a cheese board

I am known for the impromptu little get togethers at my house... it may be two friends, it could be six...
BUT - whom ever it is, or for what.... it's a celebration to me!

So, last week was Hanukkah and on the short notice, two of my best friends came over and here's what I whipped up real quick!

An easy cheese board
- I like a variety of cheeses with different flavors and textures: sharp cheddar, brie, smokey gouda, and Jarlesburg (the Jarlesburg was the favorite of the evening)
- I also like to mix in fruit, so 1 package of blackberries, two apples cut, and a bunch of grapes.
-The entire plate cost $27 at the market, which for fast entertaining I think is great!
(For 3 girls, this was pretty much dinner, and some cupcakes but that's not the point!)

I then laid out a vintage table cloth, brought out the Vera linen napkins and wooden block napkin rings and a simple little party was made.

** The plate used for serving is vintage Fire King.

KWID Does a Wreath Good

Kelly Wearstler has been known to donate her talents to wonderful organizations and causes, and this holiday season is no different.

This wreath below was designed by Kelly Wearstler to be auctioned off at the Children's Action Network and is made of grouped colored pencils.

This wreath also is designed by Kelly Wearstler to be auctioned off at the DIFFA.org's live auction at Sotheby's in New York.  DIFFA is an organization geared towards fighting for AIDS research.  The wreath is made of dyed leather ties wrapped around.  Isn't it beautiful??!!

2 great holiday decor ideas

I love this time of year!  Holiday decor is so fabulous!
Here are two super easy ideas to dress up your holiday table and your home.
I'd love to hear the creative home decorating you are doing this holiday season!
This is too cute and super easy.  Don't have fancy napkin rings - make some!  I definitely don't like cheesy-craft-it-yourself projects, but this is darling.  Just string 2 small ornaments on a thread and tie around a napkin.  Easy!!

 I love this simple idea.
Take multiple strands of ribbon and string a few ornament bells onto it and then hang on your doors.
It's such a fab idea and every time you open and close the door you will hear sweet chimes.

If I had an X-mas tree this would be THE ornament!

How Missoni is this?

If I had a Christmas tree it would be based all around this ornament.  Love the bargello feel to it.

Oh Hanukkah! Oh Hanukkah! Come light the Menorah!

Hanukkah is less than a month away (December 1-9) and for my Jewish readers... you know what that means -- its time to get organized!

- Get out the Menorah (Hanukkiah)
- Purchase fresh candles
- Pick up dreidles
- Gather up your potato latke recipes
- Pick up Chocolate gelt coins

So - in prep for the season - here are some gorgeous Menorahs to get everyone inspired.

Is it okay to be chic AND lazy this Thanksgiving??

I love entertaining my friends, but my least favorite part is the clean up afterwards.
So... How is this for an idea?  Beautiful paper plates and napkins (and a bonus --- they look real!).  I'm not saying to use a Dixie cup for a cocktail... Your guests will still feel privileged to sit at your table, and all the while you, my dear host - will relax, not have to do a huge clean, and you will not have to stress about some stupid kid breaking your china!

Halloween Decor that isn't cheesy.

I love a decorated pumpkin, or a little spooky-decor, but it needs to be in the right moderation, I don't like tacky. I know, Halloween is a silly holiday and getting festive is part of it. Here are two wreaths that I think are festive and yet still attractive and very tasteful to let out the the Halloween side of you.
Pier One
I do love this top one filled with peacock feathers! Feels very masquerade to me. The bottom wreath from Z Gallerie is sprigs of black sparkling/glittered twigs. Pretty! These wreaths both are inexpensive and let you have fun with the holiday without going weird. LOL.

Tell me - How do you decorate your home for the Halloween?

Pumpkin Patches!!!

Yesterday was such a fun day.  My best friend, Mitch and I went to an art show at the Brewery to check out Lana Gomez and a few other artists (posts to come on that FYI....) and then we went to a Pumpkin Patch.  Only in my neck of the woods would the pumpkin patch be valet only (we decided to park on the street over)!!  We couldn't believe it!!

All in all, we took goofy picutres and had a great time!  I am going to be doing a few posts this week on non-cheesy Halloween decor, and some cool ideas of what to do with pumpkins (no carving involved).

How cool are these creepy grey pumopkins!!??  I was debating on getting one, and then Mitch insisted I be traditional and get orange.  I kinda wish I got the grey....
There were barrels and barrels of mini white and orange pumpkins.  These would be great to scatter around.

And a close up of the grey.  Kicking myself.  Oh well.  (good thing its just a pumpkin... and if I really want, I can go back!)
