Vintage lighting - A definite MUST!

I am a HUGE FAN of vintage lighting. I think its such a better way to go. It may take a little more effort - but the results are unreal!! The quality is insane and so much more special. You may need to re-wire and do a bit of cleaning - But, so worth it.
Ebay... Etsy... Craigslist have so many great options - its crazy!!

Here are a few things from my home, as well as a few things I've found along the way.

Do you have any vintage lighting pieces in your home?
This lamp is in my living room. BIG fan of the wheat stack thing. I found this lamp at a vintage furniture shop in Los Feliz on a shopping trip with my best friend, Christine. P.S. If you are ever in the Los Angeles area, you really should take a shopping trip to Los Feliz - they have awesome vintage furniture stores all within a 10 block radius scattered about on one street. Amazing selection and amazing prices!
This swag chandelier hangs in my bedroom. I got it at a junk shop in Crenshaw -- the owner of the shop had no idea how cool it was and was giving it away for $30. It took 2 days to clean all the dust - but it's so Jere. I just love it!

These lamps have been up on my blog a few times, but yes - vintage, or actually they could possibly be antique. These belonged to my grandmother. They were in her attic and last year she mailed them to me for my birthday. I re-wired them and they are my absolute favorite pieces in my home.

via Ebay - HERE. This would be awesome spray painted.

via Ebay - HERE. Chic

via Etsy - HERE This is so tongue-in-cheek kitsch!
Be'it Teshuva Thrift Store - Culver City, CA

These lamps are from an amazing boutique in Long Beach, CA

These lamps are from Warehouse 1133 in Long Beach
(my current favorite shopping spot in Long Beach)

I have been in love with these lamps forever!!
Aren't they awesome? Also from Warehouse 1133 in Long Beach, CA

Gotta give a round of applause to Etsy

I don't know if you remember this post, but a few months ago I was at the Long Beach Flea Market and saw this girl walking around with this needlepoint hanging - and I was sooo sad she got to it before I did.

Well... Today is my lucky day - because LOOK at what I found on Etsy!!!
I am sooooo excited!!!!

From the personal file AND on my radar - Insect Needlepoint Pillows.

Oh my goodness.... Jonathan Adler has done it again.
How bananas are these!?!?

Here's my living room - (excuse the pic) to refresh your memory.
I see my next splurge on the horizon - and its looking like it may be these!
These are my colors and I think would jive perfectly with my Trina Turk/F. Schumacher pillows.

What do you think?

Vintage Bamboo furniture is my weakness.

I have 4 weaknesses when it comes to design:
1. Gold/brass
2. Kooky ceramic animals
3. Campaign furniture
4. Vintage bamboo furniture.

Do you have any trend or style that you ALWAYS go back to?

Now how gorgeous is this chocolate, ivory and purple dining room???

And here are a two of my weaknesses in my own home:

1. This is one of my vintage Drexel dining room chairs.

2. Here is my vintage bamboo mirror (from an estate sale) with my campaign furniture.
(PS. The room has now been painted!)

EASY Entertaining: Putting together a cheese board

I am known for the impromptu little get togethers at my house... it may be two friends, it could be six...
BUT - whom ever it is, or for what.... it's a celebration to me!

So, last week was Hanukkah and on the short notice, two of my best friends came over and here's what I whipped up real quick!

An easy cheese board
- I like a variety of cheeses with different flavors and textures: sharp cheddar, brie, smokey gouda, and Jarlesburg (the Jarlesburg was the favorite of the evening)
- I also like to mix in fruit, so 1 package of blackberries, two apples cut, and a bunch of grapes.
-The entire plate cost $27 at the market, which for fast entertaining I think is great!
(For 3 girls, this was pretty much dinner, and some cupcakes but that's not the point!)

I then laid out a vintage table cloth, brought out the Vera linen napkins and wooden block napkin rings and a simple little party was made.

** The plate used for serving is vintage Fire King.

What's your beauty ritual?

So, I've had the same make-up routine for a really long time (lets go with YEARS!!).  I would basically just go to Sephora and fill in on my tinted moisturizer, nars bronzer and blush and not even think of new products.

FINALLY - I got a whole new thing goin' and I am really liking what I got.  I am not a HUGE make-up junkie, so these few products are perfect for me!

Tell me - what products can you NOT live without!

Diorskin - Nude skin perfecting concealer. This stuff is great, I use it with a brush to apply.  It works, and is great for under eye concealing.

Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer - Oil free.  This stuff is way good, and you can layer it if you need more coverage.
Makeup For Ever - their lip glosses have a fantastic range of color!!!

Smashbox - Fusion Soft Lights.  This bronzer is sooo pretty.  ONLY downfall is that I have had the bronzer for only a week and already there is a chunk missing out of the center, like it looks like this may be an easy crumbler (which will totally bother me!)

New Segment!! and THANK YOU!

Hi Guys!

Just wanted to give you a heads up that I have a new segment coming up on The Glam Lamb, "The What! What. What?" And these are interviews with my favorite bloggers, designers, friends, family, creative resources and more.  It's taking time to get it up and organized, but I just wanted to give you the heads up that some really cool articles on fabulous friends are coming through here and I can't wait to hear what you guys think!

I must say that the blogging community is such an amazing world, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.  Every day I make new friends, learn new things, and really get inspired.  I look forward to seeing everyone's blogs and websites and businesses evolve.  So - thank you to everyone for following me thus far, and pushing me to think outside the box. My home has become more inspiring because of you, and that means a lot.

I hope you all are enjoying your holiday season.  I have so many wonderful things happening right now, I am so blessed.

All my love!
Hallie

To paint or not to paint? That is the question.

Ok folks.... I'd love your input:
This is my etagere.  But then I saw the image below over at my fabulous friend Nancy's blog (Marcus Design) and now I am thinking - I should paint my etagere white.

What do you think?  Leave it as is?  OR Paint it?

Please excuse the crappy photo

Putting my living room together - need feedback!

Well, I FINALLY painted my living room last weekend!! It took forever - but I am pleased with the results. I think I went to Sherwin Williams 4 times and Home Depot twice. awesome.

Now - these pics are a bit messy... but I wanted your opinion!

What do you think?
There is no better critiquing than from those who follow blogs - so keep me posted!
(constructive and positive is always appreciated)

WARNING: You will be seeing pics of this space a lot while I'm putting it all together and needing input!

Meeting Jonathan Adler

Have I ever mentioned that whenever I am in a grumpy mood, I read the Jonathan Adler "My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living" and immediately I feel great again? (and then notice myself re-arranging my home...) but that's besides the point!

Last night was pretty unreal.
I got to meet one of my absolute favorite designers. Ever.
Jonathan Adler!!
There was a book signing/Q&A at the Barnes and Nobles in Santa Monica and of course, I was front in center with best friend, Christine in tow. We had an absolute ball. It exceeded my expectations and it is something I will never forget.

It's people like Jonathan Adler who have so much grace, poise, interest, and care that make the design world amazing. He is creative, has such a keen eye, and really is appreciate of where his career has taken him. Not only that though - he wanted to give out his secrets: how to do this... and how to do that... He genuinely is on a mission to make everything esthetically "happy chic!"and he will help all of us get there!!

OH - and when I introduced myself - he mentioned he totally reads The Glam Lamb "Oh! I know you!" Yes. Thats what he said, my heart started racing, and it made my night!!

I also have added some new lingo to my vocab... "Obs" (obviously) "Tots" (totally) and when in doubt -- refer to everything as "Bananas!"

Yes - I had him sign it all. My best friend has his large boob vase... I wish I grabbed it from her to have him sign it!!

Oh my back! Oh my neck!

So --- I don't really get too personal here, so I am going to keep this as basic as possible. I blog in bed or on the sofa in my living room. It's really bad and I think its taking a toll on all different areas of my body.
I basically lay like this or on my back with my comfy pillow and my NAP blanket.
You do know that you are suppose to sit like this:

I'll be honest... I doubt I'll sit perfectly like this... but I think making a station of some sort would be a great start.

So -- now that we have discussed the issue... here are two images that are greatly inspiring me.   I want a clean desk - maybe even something with a drawer to keep my laptop in when I am not using it, the cord, and a few little extras.  When I am not sitting there, I don't want it to look like an office.

And now here are a few options that I am considering:
Home Decorators $199

Ikea Besta Burs desk $249

Ikea Micke desk $79

Overstock.com $185

West Elm Bond Desk $269
Walmart Parsons Desk $49
Ikea Linnarp $149
Target $99.99
Target delano $149
Any suggestions would be awesome!! :) And very much appreciated!
