The suzani throw on the bed is amazing and I love the wallpaper for the back drop. It's got such a cool mix.

From the personal file... Commune... Part 3
This will be my final post on Commune (for the time being!), and this home hit the "personal file" spot for me. It actually belongs to one of the founders of Commune, Alonso Romano - I LOVE his style and his ideas with home style. His home was featured in the most recent issue of House Beautiful and you can check out the article HERE.
Romano is an LA guy with a great passion for easy living. He loves Folksy" fabrics and pillows (hence I love that too!) and has a serious interest in mid-century furnishings. I am a huge fan of layering (I feel like I mention it in every post!) and he does an excellent job.

Dashes of Hot Pink
Isn't this a great living area and bedroom fantastic. I am a big fan of making rooms flow and this space is no exception.
The color palette for these two rooms are perfect with the sharp white walls with the dark furniture, and then pops of pink and red.
The suzani is unreal.

Wouldn't it look better if....
Wouldn't it look better for both of these rooms to take the sofas off the wall? These rooms are stunning - and they both seem large enough to bring all of the furniture in more and making it have cozier seating. They both feel to me like they have too much stuff bordering the room.

Decorative Trays
I have always liked decorative trays to group things together, I have a gold vintage bamboo tray on my dining table with vintage mid-century glass bottles, and then another bamboo like tray with a stack of books on it, and then another tray keeping my perfumes and make up brushes nicely together in the bathroom. I think they are so useful and decorative. Here are some of my favorites. (Also -- check out the last page of Elle Decor Jan/Feb 2010 issue for some really pretty trays as well).

Not sure where I found this picture but I absolutely love it. It's got the suzani printed ottoman (obvious sign I'd be in love) and the flokati rug, and right now... I am in a purple phase. This has a clean funky vibe. Very cool. Monday, August 24, 2009
This Would've Been....
If Domino Magazine hadn't closed it's doors last year, this cover above - would have been the following issue. How gorgeous, timeless, yet young and poppy is this? I am such a sucker for Suzanis and turquoise. I'd love to sleep under that gorgeous canopy every night.

The Donghia "Suzani" Fabric
As you can tell from the many posts, I love Suzani and Ikat prints. I do prefer the vintage ones, but I absolutely love the Donghia version. Here is their "Suzani" fabric. It would make a gorgeous headboard too. Or, frame it as a piece of art!

I am ALL About the Suzani
I can't stop blogging about ethnic fabrics and linens, and I truly am loving the Suzani. I've seen many Suzani's turned into pillows, or thrown on sofas or as bed linens - but here are some great pieces of furniture covered with Suzanis. They truly are "showstoppers!" and though they truly are trendy, I also think they are classic -- as they have so much history behind it.

Authentic Ethnic Blankets, Throws, Fabrics...
A huge trend (that I hope always stays) is the addition of ethnic inspired and original pieces from different countries. The Moroccan pouf has been super popular (thank-you John Derian), as well as ikat fabrics. Here are a few others that definitely are and will be gaining popularity.

Indigo Throws - Made by the Dogon people of Mali. These are all hand dyed for several days and up to weeks. 100% organic.
Argentine Wool Runners - Argentina. I would love to have a bright colored one like this in my kitchen.
Bolivian Aguayos - These textiles were originally used for women to carry their babies and personal goods. I think now, they would make great wall coverings or rugs. Made in Bolivia.
Suzani - From Uzbekistan.
Mexican bedspread - Made by the Otomi Indians from Hidalgo in Mexico. I would love to see this folded neatly at the foot of a bed.
