Bringing the movies home - Water For Elephants

I am so excited to see the movie 'Water For Elephants' for a few reasons.  For one, I loved the book; and secondly - I'm a huge fan of both Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon.  So - I know this movie will be fantastic.  Also - I heard on Ryan Seacrest (Yes, Kiss FM in the morning is one of news sources) that the set of this film is unreal.  It's during the depression of the 1930's.

It's also based around the Circus.  And this got me thinking about the beautiful vintage circus posters I have seen that make such beautiful artwork.  You can get them relatively cheap on Etsy, E-bay, or flea markets and vintage shops.  They really add such a wonderful whimsical bit of color.  Here are a few on my favorites:

A craigslist round up

Over the past several months - Craigslist in Los Angeles has kind of blown...  I rarely ever check things out because I've been sort of disappointed lately.  But - today I've found a few things that are kind of cool and made me do a little double take.

How has Craigslist been for you?  Anything absolutely amazing that you have found?

These are kids sized chairs - but aren't they darling.  $100 for pair, available HERE
This is a little different - fun and funky!  But, that's what shopping on CL is all about.  Check it out HERE.  It can be sold as a pair or separate.

Clean lined coffee table and matching end table $100 (I'm not a huge fan of the matchy-matchy, but you can split this up into different rooms) I love this.  Available HERE
Available in Redondo beach $55 Here

Vintage lighting - A definite MUST!

I am a HUGE FAN of vintage lighting. I think its such a better way to go. It may take a little more effort - but the results are unreal!! The quality is insane and so much more special. You may need to re-wire and do a bit of cleaning - But, so worth it.
Ebay... Etsy... Craigslist have so many great options - its crazy!!

Here are a few things from my home, as well as a few things I've found along the way.

Do you have any vintage lighting pieces in your home?
This lamp is in my living room. BIG fan of the wheat stack thing. I found this lamp at a vintage furniture shop in Los Feliz on a shopping trip with my best friend, Christine. P.S. If you are ever in the Los Angeles area, you really should take a shopping trip to Los Feliz - they have awesome vintage furniture stores all within a 10 block radius scattered about on one street. Amazing selection and amazing prices!
This swag chandelier hangs in my bedroom. I got it at a junk shop in Crenshaw -- the owner of the shop had no idea how cool it was and was giving it away for $30. It took 2 days to clean all the dust - but it's so Jere. I just love it!

These lamps have been up on my blog a few times, but yes - vintage, or actually they could possibly be antique. These belonged to my grandmother. They were in her attic and last year she mailed them to me for my birthday. I re-wired them and they are my absolute favorite pieces in my home.

A good day in Long Beach... Vintage shopping it up!

Several days ago I was craving a day in Long Beach for some fabulous vintage shopping - and here are some of the cool things I saw.... and debated!

This fabulous wicker chair came home with me!  I am spray painting it with a coat of luster white and having a new seat made with some fabulous fabric on it.  Serious score - $25

Gotta love a good bar cart.  This was in perfect condition.

I dont know if you can see.... but this is an awesome mirrored console.  Dreamy!

And this is the matching table.  It was an interesting height - but loved it still.

Murano lamps - these were really well priced and in perfect condition.

Amazing wall art.  Sculptural genius.  Jere?

These chairs were already sold, but non the less - pretty awesome.

Loved these structural doors.  They were in perfect condition.

Insanity!!   I so wanted this - but don't really have the spot for it - or the look.  But it's awesome.

Gotta give a round of applause to Etsy

I don't know if you remember this post, but a few months ago I was at the Long Beach Flea Market and saw this girl walking around with this needlepoint hanging - and I was sooo sad she got to it before I did.

Well... Today is my lucky day - because LOOK at what I found on Etsy!!!
I am sooooo excited!!!!

Grandma Chic - and I love it!

"What is 'Grandma Chic'?" you ask.

It's a mixture of interesting swag lights, random-tongue-in-cheek wall art, bargello and needlepoint pillows, zippy wallpaper, and vintage/mid-century furniture finds all mashed up together - making a chic little mess.

And - I am totally feeling it.

Vintage Bamboo furniture is my weakness.

I have 4 weaknesses when it comes to design:
1. Gold/brass
2. Kooky ceramic animals
3. Campaign furniture
4. Vintage bamboo furniture.

Do you have any trend or style that you ALWAYS go back to?

Now how gorgeous is this chocolate, ivory and purple dining room???

And here are a two of my weaknesses in my own home:

1. This is one of my vintage Drexel dining room chairs.

2. Here is my vintage bamboo mirror (from an estate sale) with my campaign furniture.
(PS. The room has now been painted!)

Turquoise and Chartreuse Love!

Turquoise paired with Chartreuse is one of my favorite color combos (the other is grey/white/gold).
I absolutely love this happy living room. That gorgeous map completely dictates the gorgeous color combo.

TIP: Find a piece of art work, or anything you want to hang on the wall (fabric, wallpaper, wrapping paper, a map etc.) and use that to tell you your color story and build completely around that!

From the personal file... Commune... Part 3

This will be my final post on Commune (for the time being!), and this home hit the "personal file" spot for me. It actually belongs to one of the founders of Commune, Alonso Romano - I LOVE his style and his ideas with home style. His home was featured in the most recent issue of House Beautiful and you can check out the article HERE.

Romano is an LA guy with a great passion for easy living. He loves Folksy" fabrics and pillows (hence I love that too!) and has a serious interest in mid-century furnishings. I am a huge fan of layering (I feel like I mention it in every post!) and he does an excellent job.

His living room is one of my favorite rooms of all time. I LOVE the floor cushions, the rug, and the over sized mid-cenury chair.

Here is another view of his living room. Are you loving, or what??

PS - I also LOVE that you can totally achieve this look through vintage and flea market finds!!!
