Bringing the movies home - Water For Elephants

I am so excited to see the movie 'Water For Elephants' for a few reasons.  For one, I loved the book; and secondly - I'm a huge fan of both Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon.  So - I know this movie will be fantastic.  Also - I heard on Ryan Seacrest (Yes, Kiss FM in the morning is one of news sources) that the set of this film is unreal.  It's during the depression of the 1930's.

It's also based around the Circus.  And this got me thinking about the beautiful vintage circus posters I have seen that make such beautiful artwork.  You can get them relatively cheap on Etsy, E-bay, or flea markets and vintage shops.  They really add such a wonderful whimsical bit of color.  Here are a few on my favorites:

Talk to the hand....

For several years now I have been coming across sculpture Pedro Friedeberg's hand chairs and have been in complete awe by their tongue-in-cheek coolness and forward aesthetic.  Kelly Wearstler and Jonathan Adler on huge fans - so of course everyone else follows!

After reading a little bit about Friedeberg, I have come to learn that he is quite a kooky guy, which makes sense since his art is on a different level.  He has said, "I admire everything that is useless, frivolous and whimsical.  I hate functionalism, post modernism and almost everything else.  I do not agree with the dictum that houses are supposed to be 'machines to live in'.  For me, the house and it's objects is supposed to be some crazy place that make you laugh."

Decorating with Botanical Prints

Botanical Prints can come off sometimes being too traditional - well not in these cases...**

Love these rare blue and white botanical prints. Image via decorpad

** And, for a budget friendly tip: Beautiful botanical prints can be found at flea markets and antique malls all over the country.  Just look for old botanical books and frame the images that you like.  (That's exactly what the pros do!)

From the personal file - So visually stimulating.

Isn't this wall just unreal?
I am in love with the floral wall art, the floral arrangement, the lamp and the credenza.
It all goes together perfect!
I hate to be negative - but the fuller view of the room doesn't look as strong as this accented wall....
But all good - this first pic, is unbelievable.

Hope you enjoy it too!

Tobi Fairley gets inspiration from Adler

This is some easy art that Jonathan Adler made for his Palm Beach, Florida home... Silhouettes of himself; his partner Simon Doonan, and their dog Liberace.... Below is a new living room designed by Tobi Fairley where she takes this inspiration and uses it for one of her clients. It does look great though.

An Art-y idea!

I thought this was such a great idea. Take something you really love, a letter, envelope, photograph, a ticket stub... anything - and take it to a printing place like kinkos and have them blow it up for you to hang as art. Brilliant.

Artist Crush - Jason Rohlf

Growing up I was always drawn to Impressionist painters: Monet, Manet, Renoir.... My dream in the 3rd grade was to go to Giverny and see Monet's lily pads and his beautiful foot bridge. I then went to the South of France with my sister several years ago and we went to the Chagal museum and I fell in love with his use of color. And now I have found a new art love, its a tad different from my normal liking - but it just speaks to me, I guess. These two paintings below are by Brooklyn painter, Jason Rohlf. His strengths are in his abstract, geometrical and vibrant color works. They are just stunning and I am a big fan.

The writing is on the wall...

I've always been drawn to words on walls... not cheesy framed words like "wisdom" or "friendship", but inspiring phrases, quotes, notes, etc. Here are some great examples that I thought were creative and fun. Stenciling at its finest.
Love this French framed poster. Looks like its part of a great craft room. Image via Sweet Jessie
