Inspiration Sunday

This week's Inspiration Sunday has a lot of focus on the gypsy, tribal feel. I have been seeing a lot of it lately, from the Moroccan Poufs by John Derian, to serving pieces and glasses at Anthropologie. The majority of the rooms featured today have a lot of it - and show how to make it more modernized. I love it. It has character with some glam attitude.

Enjoy your week!! I love how this room is very geometric and balanced. I also love the use of Moroccan/gypsy detailing in a modern way. You rarely see the ethnic fabrics used this way and I think its done brilliantly.
This could be my favorite image for this week's Inspiration Sunday!! The wall color is my absolute favorite!!! I love the white furniture and white lamp shades against it with the pop of black framing in the background. This could be my newest bedroom inspiration. I adore, adore, adore!!!

Love the dramatic chandelier. I'm also really digging the avocado/pea green-yellow accent color. I've been seeing a lot of it at flea markets - love it! It could be making a big, big come-back.

Again, love the wall color! I also love the Moroccan vibe here as well. The tribal feel is fantastic.

This bed frame is pretty insane. There is a lot going on in this room - but the bed is outrageous!

Love the use of the ENORMOUS chandelier in center of the room. Also -the drapes play a big role here. Like it.

Again, love the paint color. This room is extremely calm and serene. It's feminine and soft.

Room Dividers/Screens

Room dividers and screens have been around for many many years. They are extremely functional when it comes to sectioning off areas of rooms, and doing so in a decorative way. A room divider can be used to make a changing area or closet. This would be especially great in a room that doesn't have a closet and you want to hide a rolling rack or some type of eye-sore.

Also, they are great in studio apartments. Anyone who rents can find some use for a room divider. Whether you want to split up a bedroom, or section off a dining area, or just give your self another area of privacy.

I have seen many room dividers that are so beautiful they could even be used just for decorative purposes, or as a head board or hung from the ceiling as a divider. Just do a google search and many websites come up, you can even find awesome, original ones on Ebay and Craigslist.

http://www.1stdibs.com/ This is my favorite screen. I love this fabric. So boho chic.

Armani Casa - This screen is very cool. It would fit in any decor - whether it be Modern, Hollywood Regency, Vintage Modern....

Fashion and Interior Design are on the Same Trend Wave

This season, more than ever, I am noticing Interior Design trends are on the same wave lengths as Fashion Trends. Hippie Glamour, Geometric patterns, Preppy, Bamboo, tribal, animal prints. The list goes on and on. So, some food for thought - if you want to wear it, you most likely will see it in the design world as well. This also is obvious as many fashion designers are dropping into the interior world with small textile and home collections. So, here are some great examples of crossovers!

Wallpaper

I use to think wallpaper was so 80s in a bad way. It's funny because there was a time where I looked back on the 80's as the worst decade for fashion and style - and now I view it as original and having a lot of 'tude. I like 'tude. So, now of course - I adore wallpaper. It's absolutely beautiful and there are so so many options to choose from - it makes a room special. It can also act like an anchor (similar to what rugs do for a room).

Many interior designers start a room by picking out the area rug first - I think this method would work as well with picking your wallpaper first. Especially if its super dramatic and a pattern you absolutely love.

There are so many people getting on the wallpaper bandwagon - Kelly Wearstler has designed some textiles, and so has Adler.

Some great wallpaper website to check out:

Over the top and bold! A great room to test vivacious wallpapers would be a powder room.

Parishotelboutique.com

When you have a free moment - please check out http://www.parishotelboutique.com/

Lynn Goldfinger-Abram has had this e-shop since 2002, and it truly is phenomenal. It's an interior designer's haven for furniture, lighting and accessories. She has such a keen eye and finds all the on-point pieces of the season. For example, garden stools are huge right now - so she has a couple of options including elephants and other interesting shaped ones as well.

There are many, many french antique pieces and silver. But, there is also some mid-century and Hollywood regency. Lynn's selection can blend into many many different styles.

These are some of my favorites:
I love this coffee table, the glass shape works perfectly with the shape of the coffee table base - making it more interesting than just the typical square shape. This is faux-bamboo, the look is hot and on point with Spring/Summer 09 trend - and for more seasons to come!
This is my favorite piece on her site right now. It's pretty brilliant and would make any room sparkle. This would be unreal in a large foyer, or in a beautiful dining room.

This vintage trunk with drawers would be the coolest coffee table. It's in excellent condition.

Super cute as a desk chair or a dressing-table chair.

This is a vintage plastered tassel garden stool. Now, the site has other garden stools, but this was the most original. The color is fun, the shape is interesting. I have never seen anything like it before.

This is a great chandelier. I would love this in a breakfast nook or a bedroom. This chandelier probably was found quite weathered and extremely distressed. All it takes is a little bit of sand paper and white spray paint. So, if you ever see an inexpensive chandelier with amazing form - take it! Spray paint will bring it a whole new life. :)
