Do you shag? Opinions would be good on this!

I have a chair that has the abilities of looking pretty awesome covered in shag material.  But I am still on the fence about this.  This would be for the accent chair in my living room.  I have some pros and cons about it....  Pro - It would look really interesting, and would definitely be a great conversation piece.
Con - No one will want to sit on it and it needs to be a multi-purpose room.  (The room is going to be painted grey fyi - on the darker side, with white molding)

Honestly - I am most likely not going to do the shag chair, but I've definitely contemplated it because its such a surprising look.  What do you think about this chair and what do you think about shag?
Above - this is my chair that needs recovering.  Great shape and great condition -- just needs little love.

Nate Berkus' Living Room

I know this image has been thrown around a thousand times in the blog world - but it belongs to Nate berkus. I am sure he has re-done this room since this photo was shot many years ago, btu I always go back to it and stare at it for ideas. I find it brillian that he can make natural colors look so dreamy, rich, and creative. Its the perfect femanized masculine room! ;)

Yellow and Turquoise Living Room

Such an interesting room with the splashes of turquoise and yellow and pale pink. There are so many interesting things to look at. Whom ever designed this room though did a fantastic job of keeping it classy and still looking rich.

From the Personal File....

My style is getting a lot more straight light, a little more modern.... like a softened modern with lots of accents and layers and this bedroom is definitely a love.
1. I love the calming color palette
2. The two cabinets with the pink lamps are just beautiful, and then mirror is pretty fab.
3. Love the zig zag throw blanket, it really gives a punch in a solid room
4. The carpeting is so luxe (this would not work with Lincoln -- my dog)
5. The bedding is so simple yet looks so rich.
6. That ceiling is pretty sick.

Design Trends are Full Circle

I am going to give you a piece of advice. Never knock down interior design trends from the past -- because it will (guaranteed!) come back in style in a major way. Check out the room above. Guess when it was designed? This is a living room in Caracas from the 1960s. Can you believe how fresh and up to speed with current trend it is? It's like you can't even tell what decade its from. It's that good.
1. Those straight line sofas are gorgeous. Especially with the pops of turquoise and black & white mod pillows.
2. That mid-century modern table.
3. The ethnic inspired wood garden stools. Gorgeous!
4. The use of color of bright orange for the rug.

The new trend: Busts

The 3rd Sunday of the month is one of my favorite days. My best friend and I attend the greatest flea market, talk about nonsense and over-heat in the Summers. We laugh, make friends, and enjoy the day. Each trip we make brings on a new trend. For instance - 2 months ago - it seemed like every dealer was selling porcelain and blanc de chine animals - especially dogs. This time around, the hot ticket item was the Bust (See the images below).

They are extremely dramatic, add the element of whimsy, and surely make you appreciate History a little bit more. These busts also are great conversation starters with your guest. No one would know but you that you didn't find it on an archaeological dig. Just kidding!

Try to keep your eyes out for a large bust, as they are extremely popular they do tend to get pricey. I've seen one for $300, another for $700, and a few in the thousands. They truly are finds!

Happy Shopping! Please do send me pics if you do have a bust or dramatic piece you would like to share.

Caitlin Moran Designed Room

How chic is this room, designed by Caitlin Moran? There are about a million elements to this room that I am absolutely crazy about!

For starters, the accessorizing in this room is perfect - from the Moroccan pouf, the gold garden stool, the matching pair of lamps, the blue, red, and hot pink accents.... It's fantastic. I also love the window seat. It's so calming, and not over done. It looks like the perfect place to lounge. It's also quite brilliant that there is a reading light perfectly placed above it.

Earth Beauties: Agate

Fashion and Interior Design always finds a way to overlap - and that can be seen in Gucci's Spring/Summer 09 jewelry collection made with precious stones, gems, and agate. Geodes like amethyst, agate, jasper, or calcite have beautiful colors that have been popular for many, many years in home decor.

The style in my place is pretty boho-glam. I love the organic feel to these pieces, especially paired with gold accents and neutral back drops.

Check out some great ones below. Gucci Agate bracelet. I am obsessed with this bracelet. So gorgeous.

Maybe, grouping 3 of them together to make a cheese plate. Or, Stagger them on a lifted stand for desserts. Or, to enjoy them every day - use them in the kitchen to hold your salt and pepper shaker, or hang with a plate hanger.

Crespi Stools

I adore these gold stools designed by Crespi. They are stunning, glamorous and dramatic. I like how they kept the seat neutral to tie in with the pillows on the sofa and to really bring your eye to the attention of the detailed cut-out patterns.
A side note, I also really love how they paired the mirrored coffee table with the gold stool. Mirrored furniture is usually seen as silver in color, and not seen often mixed with gold. I love this modern, straight-line, steel feel with the gold, embellished feel. It works harmoniously.

A Fresh and Happy Hamptons Retreat!

The June 09 Issue of Elle Decor did a feature on Veronica and Jamie Beard's Hampton's home. It has a true Summer feel to it with lots of pop and vibrant colors. It is like mixing up Lily Pulitzer; Palm Beach, FL, Palm Springs, CA, and tons of bright color and whipping up this insane home. I adore! True Summer Glam at its best!

How Palm Beach/Palm Springs is this!? The green zebra is amazing and same with the bamboo club chair. Sick!

These ikat pillows are amazing, and I love that she used all different ikat patterns on each chair. The base of the dining table is so organic and fluid. It's really interesting against the white chairs and the pale pink walls. This girl has some serious style.

This room is so fun and cheery. I love how she mixed 2 completely different fabrics that you wouldn't consider putting together and completely making it work. I love the end tables - A LOT!

White Never Goes Out of Style

To me, white is: clean, refreshing, traditional, modern, fashionable, crisp, organized, layered... the list can go on and on. It looks like it would be hard to maintain, but I have this feeling that it isn't. See, I will only have a white duvet. I have a dog.... I need to know that I can throw it in the washing machine with some bleach and call it a day. So, how hard can white be?? Well... Unless the fabric isn't bleach friendly.

How serene is this?? I love the chaise lounge. I'd make someone sit there with my and talk to me while I took a bath.

I absolutely adore this. I love the traditional white/gray marble counter top with the modern square sinks. Yet the sinks don't look that modern - it's like they almost have a farm-style feel to them. And of course, I love the 3 crystal pendant lights hanging. Perfection!

Chesterfield Headboard. Chesterfields always look so forward and modern in white, I think. It look great.

Stunning. I love the black flooring here. I don't know if its an epoxy or a hard wood, but It really sets the stage perfectly.

Glamour.

Gypsy Queen screaming for some Moroccan!

I've been seeing a lot, a lot of Moroccan inspired pieces. And, I've been seeing it everywhere - even mixed into some modern settings where you wouldn't expect to see it. People are already catching on with the John Derian Moroccan Poufs, Garden Stools, and the Ikat printed material. I really love it. It coincides extremely well with the Boho-Glam Look I am trying to achieve.

It's a super user friendly style - you can go full-fledged in a room, or just use accents, especially if you aren't sure about the style and just want to test it out. It's also a great Spring/Summer look, very laid-back.

Moroccan Plates - http://www.target.com/ These would be great for a table setting, just mix them in with your white set of dishes. Or, you could just get a couple and set them on your dresser and use them to hold your jewelry.

Moroccan Poufs

Check out the wallpaper. Love the deep purple.

The modern use of black and white totally glams the bone furniture, pouf, mod lamp, and dramatic mantel.

Great bedding - I bet if you google "sari fabric" on ebay you will get some great fabric options to use for a bed spread. Great lamps in this picture too!!!

A modern take on the Moroccan look - nail heads.

This is the epitome of Summer. I adore the color combo.
